School Established
Overview
Vance Co. Early College H.S. (VCEC) is one of Vance Co. Innovative Public Schools and one of North Carolina Dept. of Public Instructions' 116 Cooperative Innovative High Schools.
Established in 2008, VCEC is the result of a partnership between Vance County Schools and the Vance-Granville Community College (VGCC). The school is located on VGCC's campus, in Henderson NC.
VCEC is a tuition-free five-year high school experience that offers students the opportunity to employ 21st-century learning strategies that award students with a North Carolina High School Diploma, Associate of Arts or Associate of Science Degree, or one year of college transfer credits upon high school graduation.
VCECs' reduced enrollment size and community college setting allow for students to engage in personalized and collaborative instruction, receive high school and college advisement, and develop diverse social skills all while growing the cognitive skills to synthesize information to apply to real-world situations and create real-world solutions.
In 2017, 2018, and 2019 U.S. News and World Report list Vance Co. Early College H.S. as one of North Carolina's top high schools.
